Head of School Message

From the Desk of Christopher Johnson

Dear JCDS Families and Friends,

As we begin our 66th year of educating children, Jacksonville Country Day School enters the new school year with tremendous momentum and a clear sense of purpose. For more than six decades, JCDS has created an educational experience where children are known, challenged, supported, and inspired to grow. We look forward to building on that legacy in the year ahead and for generations to come.

The past school year continued JCDS’s tradition of strong student achievement, joyful learning, and growth across every area of school life. We are grateful for the confidence families place in our mission, our faculty, and the distinctly elementary-focused educational program we provide.

Because JCDS serves children from Pre-K 3 through 5th grade, we can focus fully on the opportunities and needs of young learners. These are the years when confidence grows through experience, curiosity becomes a habit, and character is strengthened through daily practice. In classrooms, on the stage, on the field, and throughout our outdoor spaces, students are guided by knowledgeable and caring adults who know them well, set high expectations, and provide the encouragement and support they need to embrace new challenges.

The partnership between school and family strengthens this growth. When faculty and families share a common purpose and provide consistent encouragement, children feel secure enough to take academic risks, learn from feedback, and persist through challenges. Along the way, they also learn to communicate thoughtfully, act with compassion, and lead by example.

Our commitment to the elementary experience can be seen throughout our campus and programs. This school year, students will return to a renewed amphitheater, made possible through the generosity of donors who invested in this important gathering and learning space.

Enhancements to our LearningScape, developed in partnership with our faculty, staff, and the team at KOMPAN, will provide a reimagined outdoor experience for our Early Learning students. Construction will also begin on new Pre-K 3 classrooms, marking another important step in the implementation of our long-term Campus Master Plan.

Our investment in the student experience extends beyond our facilities. Beginning this year, students in every grade will receive Spanish instruction twice during each six-day cycle, providing greater consistency and exposure to language learning.

At JCDS, we are intentionally building on our tradition of educational excellence by investing in the people, programs, and spaces that help children thrive. Guided by thoughtful stewardship and meaningful innovation, we continue to strengthen an elementary experience defined by exceptional teaching, strong relationships, and opportunities designed for the way young children learn best.

Whether you are part of the JCDS community or are interested in learning more about us, we look forward to hearing from you and sharing all that is Jacksonville Country Day School.

With gratitude,

Christopher Johnson
