The Mind of a Shark
Imagine your child thriving in a warm, vibrant community where they become confident, curious, and kind. At Jacksonville Country Day School, our Sharks—guided by our beloved mascot, Sharky—build a strong foundation from Pre-K 3 through 5th grade in a place that feels like family.
Our mission is simple: to help children grow into thoughtful learners with strong character and a sense of responsibility to others. From Pre-K 3 through 5th grade, we deliver a challenging and joyful program in the classroom, on the field, on the stage, and beyond.
Small Classes, Big Connections
We keep class sizes small so every child receives personal attention. In our early learning classrooms, each class has both a lead teacher and a full-time assistant teacher. This allows students to build close relationships with their teachers and work closely with their peers.

Beginning in 4th grade, every student receives their own iPad. These devices are used thoughtfully—in class and at home—to support projects, research, and creative work. Teachers carefully choose apps that reinforce skills while helping students build confidence with technology in a safe, guided environment.

Beyond daily PE, students explore music, art, science lab, library, technology, and computer science with dedicated specialist teachers each week. These classes often become highlights of the week, sparking new passions and broadening students’ horizons.

Daily Physical Education
Every student has physical education every day, led by our three full-time PE specialists. Our youngest Sharks develop coordination and confidence through age-appropriate games and activities. As they grow, students build motor skills, sportsmanship, and teamwork through a variety of games and challenges.
In the warmer months, students also enjoy swimming in our two child-friendly pools, where they gain water confidence in a safe environment.

Play Spaces for Every Age
Our 19-acre campus offers plenty of space to run, play, and explore. Students enjoy our large field, basketball courts, two Kompan playgrounds designed for different age groups, and a round track perfect for tricycles. On rainy days, the full-size gymnasium in the Smith Center keeps the fun going indoors. Shaded areas throughout campus help everyone stay comfortable under the Florida sun.
After-School Sports
For students in grades 3 and up, we offer developmental after-school sports programs, including basketball, soccer, volleyball, and flag football. These programs give students the chance to build skills, stay active, and enjoy team sports in a supportive environment.
Our 19-acre campus offers plenty of space to run, play, and explore. Music instruction is also an integral part of the curriculum. Students with a real passion for music can join band, chorus, or drumline. These groups perform in concerts throughout the year that families look forward to attending.
Each grade level also puts on a production where every student has the opportunity to sing, act, or dance. The annual Veteran’s Day performance is always a highlight that brings the whole community together.

Throughout the year, we celebrate with Pajama Days, themed dress-up days, and student-led assemblies organized by our 5th-grade Student Council. These moments help build school spirit and create lasting memories.
One of our favorite traditions happens each year when our 5th graders take on the faculty in friendly games of kickball and basketball. While the faculty may have the advantage of size, the real winners are the laughs and the sense of community these games create.

"An important thing that I learned at this school is always have empathy. Having empathy is a really good thing because whenever your friend is sad you can always cheer them up and know what they're feeling by putting yourself in their shoes. This is an important life lesson that I'll take with me...for the rest of my life."
Members of our community frequently remark on the respect, courtesy, and strong character our students demonstrate, whether welcoming visitors to campus or representing our school on field trips.
