One of the most important skills that students work on at JCDS is writing and some of the most important first steps in their writing education happen in first grade. 

The World of Nations celebrates the cultural diversities of our student body, headlined by presentations by our wonderful families. This February, we had 21 countries presented by 25 parents and grandparents.

The fifth graders have been studying electricity and how to assemble electric circuits in science class, but Fifth and Sixth Grade Teacher Dona Kenny had one last — and very cool — experiment for them.

The second and sixth graders witnessed an astonishing demonstration of medical technology in February. Representatives from Baptist Medical Center Beaches presented the Davinci surgery robot to a roomful of amazed students and a few parents.

The first grade exhibited a dazzling display of art and science in February with their show, Animal Biomes: A Light and Shadow Experience. The Kelly Fine Arts Center auditorium was transformed into a museum with the creations of the young science students centerstage.

The second graders recently completed a unit on non-fiction writing, and have produced short books that are interesting and informative. The ability to clearly communicate ideas to your reader is one of the most important skills a student must master in their educational endeavors.

The fifth graders presented their show Mindset Matters on January 30, impressing their parents, teachers, and friends with their amazing singing, dancing, and instrument playing. It was a rousing crowd pleaser!

This January, students in third grade have been studying about the Civil Rights Movement in the United States, as it coincides with the day we celebrate the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Students in Pre-K 4 had some awesome visitors on the morning of January 18 – their dads and some friendly dinosaurs!

December 20 was a special day at school where both kids and adults were given a choice — come to school wearing what you slept in or dress up in your finest holiday jammies. Everyone looked amazing and incredibly cozy!

On the exciting last day before Winter Break, the crowd was ecstatic as the 6th graders delivered an awe-inspiring performance, securing a hard-fought triumph against the faculty in the highly anticipated 6th Grade vs. Faculty basketball game.
